Over January and February, I am involved in the making of a short film based on my song "Living Out Rough." This song was initially recorded in Hong Kong at Sky Production Studios and then produced by Graeme Holdaway in the UK. This year, I enabled the creation of a short film to illustrate the music which explores the aspects of self and identity undergoing personal and exterior challenges.
Some of you may have already tuned into my recent podcast called "My Songs in China"(click the link at the bottom to hear it) and I have another brand new podcast due out in January 2023, that features further inside stories about my travels and Soul-Folk albums created. This year, I've hosted music jams in Hangzhou where I have loved meeting an eclectic bunch of musicians, bands and poets. It has also been amazing to become the founder of Jane Nicola Soundvibe show hosting and creating monthly podcasts about my own life and work in Asia, as well as sharing the work of other musicians, bands, and creators around the globe. I will be sharing many more creative works with you in the new Year, wishing you and your loved ones a special 2023 also!
I released "My Songs in Asia" this month which is a podcast about my work as a singer-songwriter and performing artist in Asia. Fourteen years ago I left the UK to explore Asia, to try something which no one I knew had ever tried before. I began teaching English, then music and also began to perform. My songwriting continued, I recorded my songs at Sky Production studios which were produced back in the UK by Graeme Holdaway. I gigged in the countries of China, Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong and in this pod I play some tracks and talk about the stories behind my travels! In Asia, I was able to experiment to take risks and there was a sense of freedom in taking off to different countries, getting lost in the streets without a map. Graeme became the benchmark, helping me to track and record my artistic processes, it didn't matter what music I had created, he was always open to letting me try things out. Not all of the recordings were immaculate, in fact some of what I worked with was quite raw but it was more a footprint of what was happening and what I was up too. Like a musical diary as I travelled around. The songs were performed in many places from wine bars, music clubs, street corners, small back rooms and in studios. Coming out next will be my winter podcast which shares more songs from these amazing times, so watch this space! Here's the link to "My songs in Asia" podcast.
Autumn in Shanghai, this is one of my favorite seasons! Just warm enough to lounge outside. This next couple of months sees me getting ready to record again! Also I am releasing a podcast about my albums and work with Graeme Holdaway. He recorded many of my songs throughout the years and continued to produce many of the songs even when I moved abroad. In my pod, I talk about how the songs were created and the processes involved to enable each song to come to fruition.
